An ode to camp!

Over the years, the MET Gala has been regarded as the Oscar’s of fashion. A huge platform for the fashion industry, and Hollywood’s biggest stars bring their A-game to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year was no different, with all of the dresses on the pink-carpet taking hours and hours to prepare.

One of this year’s attendees were Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, who famously attended the Gala together in 2017 as guests of Ralph Lauren. This year, they were both dressed by Dior, and they didn’t come to play. With the Bollywood beauty in her caged dress and her husband in his white suit, the power couple were true to the event’s theme: Camp: Notes on Fashion.

Priyanka stunned in her Dior couture gown and cape, which was made from tulle. The ensemble featured embroidery of tulle feathers and silver strass. The feathers were each cut by hand and then attached in graded layers, going from grey and blush pink to bolder yellow, fuchsia and fiery red. Meanwhile, the caged bodice of the dress was created from tulle and silver horsehair. The complete look to a team of 10 petites-mains, who worked on the dress for a total of 1500 hours. The 36-year-old completed the look with a Dior Haute Couture palladium crown, which sat atop of her frizzy, voluminous curls.

Jean Eudes, from Dior’s Vermont embroidery atelier, talked about the inspiration behind Priyanka’s look, saying: “It is inspired by those American television series of the 1980s.. a very affected style, this whole idea of ‘more, more and more’. But always chic. Always extremely chic.”
