As India faces the toughest fight against COVID-19 any country has seen thus far, high profile figures – including Priyanka Chopra Jonas – from the nation are urging the world to donate and raise money amidst the crisis.

In a heartfelt video she posted to Instagram, Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas announced they were launching their own fundraiser in partnership with the Give India Foundation in order to help those who have been affected by the pandemic.

“India, my home, is suffering the world’s worst Covid crisis, and we all need to help!” Chopra captioned the video. “People are dying in record numbers. There is illness everywhere, and it’s only continuing to spread and kill at great speed and scale.”

The actress urged people to donate whatever they could to help, explaining that if just $10 was given by 100,000 people, $1 million would be raised.

The funds raised will go towards medical equipment, vaccine support, COVID-19 care centres, isolation centres, oxygen generating plants and more.

“Please please donate. Nick and I already have and will continue to contribute,” the Quantico star continued. “We have all seen how far and wide this virus can spread, an ocean between us makes no difference. No one is safe unless everyone is safe. It’s so heartening to see so many people stepping up to help in so many ways.

“We need to beat this virus, and to do that requires ALL of us.”

Over the past few weeks, India has seen drastically increasing COVID-19 numbers, with many countries opting to temporarily suspend flights in and out of the nation including the UAE.

To date, there have been over 19,900,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India and 218,000 fatalities.
