Breaking the glass ceiling
Over the years, women in the Middle East have been excelling in every way possible, making history and breaking the so-called glass ceiling. So this news comes as another win for women in the region, as Princess Salma of Jordan just became the Kingdom’s first female military pilot.
After becoming the first woman in the Hashemite to graduate from pilot training, the Princess was presented with a prestigious accolade by none other than her proud father, His Majesty King Abdullah II himself at Amman‘s Al Husseiniya Palace. The ceremony included the young pilot’s mother, Queen Rania and her older brother, the Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the pilots of the Aviation Wing, the King Hussein Air College Commandant, the Commander of the Aviation Wing, and the Commander of the Royal Air Force. The 25-year-old Prince took to Instagram to congratulate his sister, writing: “Brilliant and hard-working as always! Congrats on receiving your wings and here’s to more success and achievements.”

The Princess has a history of making her family proud, as two years ago she graduated from England’s distinguished Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. While there, she followed in her father and older brother’s footsteps, completing a Short Commissioning Course.
Her family made an appearance at her graduation, with Queen Rania sharing commemorating her achievement on Instagram, writing: “From a graduation gown a few months ago to a military uniform today, you have proven how capable you are! Congratulations to our daughter Salma on graduating from a Short Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.”
