Making up for a pandemic-stricken year, Prada staged not one but two runway shows in the fashion capitals of Milan and Shanghai to showcase their Spring/Summer 2022 collection.

The show’s duality brought a refreshing element to the runway this season. It was staged simultaneously, in the Deposito of the Fondazione Prada, Milan and in Bund 1, Shanghai.

Freedom of expression was a key component of the show. The concept of stripped-down clothing was at the helm of its theme, with satin miniskirts and couture silk pieces that dominated the runway. Infusing aspects of lockdown dressing into each look, the styles were targeted to focus on a new-age audience.

By adapting to non-conformist principles, the theme of the show was ‘a seduction through reduction’ with models stripped to their bare essentials. The elegant evening clothing was seen in a completely new light, by taking inspiration from corsets.

With pieces fitted for a non-constricting wardrobe, eveningwear was highlighted through experimented vocabulary that negate the traditional connotations of restrictions. By reducing garments to their simplest form, the comforts of WFH dressing were presented on the runway, with Prada’s edge, of course.

Being the first in-person runway show since Raf Simons joined Miuccia Prada as co-creative director of the Italian Maison, it surely created a sense of excitement amongst its audience.

Keeping the reality of travelling restrictions in mind, the synchronized concept was introduced to bring two groups of people on two sides of the world together in this socially distant world.
