The weekend is finally here, and we’re going to be making the most of it with celebrity-approved singers, hit musicals, happiness festivals and yoga – on a boat.

See real soul right here in Dubai

Sheléa

She’s toured with Stevie Wonder and performed for the Obamas, so we’re expecting quite the show from Sheléa. The singer and pianist is the new artist-in-residence at Quincy Jones’ bar until April, and she’ll be performing jazz, soul and R&B numbers live five times a week. Legendary producer Jones says Sheléa’s “guaranteed to make you shake”, and the man who nurtured Michael Jackson’s music would know.

Q’s, Palazzo Versace, Al Jaddaf, Dubai, Tues to Sat 7pm to 2am, shows start at 8.30pm, 10pm and 11.30pm. Tel: (04) 556 8851. 21 and over only. More information on website.

See a classic musical tonight, tonight

Get a snapshot of 1950s America in 2017 Dubai with hit musical West Side Story (you know, the one with songs like Something’s Coming, Tonight and I Feel Pretty). A modern-day retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the production explores the animosity between two rival gangs, and the star-crossed lovers from each side. The multiple Tony Award-winning show is at Dubai Opera until February 18, so you’ll have to be quick to catch Maria, Tony and co.

Snap up a customisable tee with some local culture

sauce

We’re often found having a virtual window shop at s*uce, and one particular item looks like it might sneak its way into our shopping bag this weekend. The Dubai-based fashion brand has teamed up with blogger Soraya Bakhtiar and Zayan the Label to create a slouchy grey tee with a gauzy ruffled hem. The best bit? You can customise the online exclusive with an Arabic letter of your choice, so it could make a neat gift for any new-to-Dubai friends…

Have a brunch that turns into a boogie

sass cafe

Now it might not be one for those of you with an important 9am meeting tomorrow, but you probably should try DIFC institution Sass Café’s Saturday brunch at least once. With Mediterranean-inspired dishes (think burrata, risotto, truffle linguine and beef tenderloin), you can go a la carte or choose from a new set menu between 12pm and 4pm. Then, the tables are whisked away and the DJ dials up the volume until 10pm, so you can dance off your three courses.
