It’s the mostly hotly anticipated Hollywood event of the year, and while we’re always eager to know who won what, we get even more excited about seeing who wore who. And so, without further ado, here are our top picks of the best dressed ladies on the red carpet of the 86th Academy Awards.
It was the young stars of Tinseltown who were leading the way in the sartorial stakes. Fast becoming our favourite style icon, Lupita Nyong’o has been achieving fashion highs ever since her first red carpet appearance to promote her movie 12 Years A Slave. Her pale blue Prada gown, with a plunging v-neckline was the highlight of the celebrity parade.
Hunger Games beauty Jennifer Lawrence was as red as her stunning Dior dress after stumbling onto the arrival area after tripping while leaving her limo – though, that did just make us love her even more.
She may be pregnant, but America’s Best Dressed Woman, actress Kerry Washington, didn’t let that stop her making a statement, and that she did in a gorgeous Jason Wu bandeau dress with a front split.
Oscar nominees Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock both opted for flattering navy dresses. Amy’s Gucci Couture gown highlighted that famous figure of hers that has become synonymous with the success of American Hustle. Sandra’s draped Alexander McQueen number, accessorised with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and side swept hair, further proved she is still fab at forty.
Also giving the young girls a run for their money was Kate Hudson who went for a vintage vibe in a Versace gown with a pseudo-cape.
Charlize Theron was a surprise on the night with a form-fitting Dior dress, which was the epitome of glamour.
While Cate Blanchett failed to wow us at the BAFTAS, she pulled out all the sartorial stops with her beaded Giorgio Armani number.
White was certainly a big trend of the night. Portia de Rossi was beaming with pride in a dazzling Naeema Khan dress as she attended the Oscars to support her friend, and the host of the evening, Ellen DeGeneres.
Naomi Watts looked angelic in a Calvin Klein number, while Kristen Bell showed off her incredible post-baby body in a bridal-esque gown by Roberto Cavalli.
The biggest shock of the night came courtesy of Lady Gaga, but not for what you think. In fact, the talented singer’s controversial move was attending the Oscars in a demure metallic gown. We have to admit, she certainly pulls it off.
