Ciara, Roberto Cavalli

Ciara for Cavalli, Kim Kardashian’s third Vogue cover, and the most powerful woman in the UAE. Team EW breaks down the week in pictures…

Kim Kardashian lands her third Vogue cover

Kim Kardashian, Vogue Brasil

The June issue of Vogue Brasil stars Kim Kardashian in full Marilyn Monroe mode

Haters still gonna hate, but Kim Kardashian West’s transformation from body con-clad reality TV queen into accepted member of the fashion elite continues with this, her third appearance on the cover of Vogue. The June issue of Vogue Brasil stars Kim in full Marilyn Monroe mode; all platinum blonde waves, ample curves and waspish waist, with the headline: “Efeito Bombshell”, Portuguese for “The Bombshell Effect”. The cover, shot by Ellen von Unwerth, is in marked contrast to her Vogue Australia cover, which saw her looking stripped back and make-up free on a beach.

It was Anna Wintour who first decided Kim, who has since fronted a Balmain campaign, should join the elite coterie of Vogue cover girls. The April 2014 issue of US Vogue, shot by Annie Leibovitz and showing Kim in a Lanvin wedding gown with her then fiancé Kanye West, sent impeccably groomed eyebrows skywards in fashion circles the world over.

UAE Minister Named Among World’s 50 Most Powerful Women

Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi

Forbes put Sheikha Qasimi at number 42 in their list of 100 Power Women

Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, the UAE’s Minister of International Cooperation and Development, is the 42nd most powerful woman in the world, according to Forbes.  The 53-year-old ranked above pop megastar Taylor Swift, who made her debut appearance on the 100 Power Women list at number 64 this week. Sheikha Qasimi, who has jumped 13 places from 55 in 2014, has led the UAE into an “unprecedented” amount of philanthropy, Forbes said, citing the country’s US$12million commitment to Syrian children and refugees as an example. The Sheikha became the first woman to hold a ministerial post in the UAE in 2004. The German Chancellor Angela Merkel was at number one in the list of woman leading the world, followed by US presidential candidate Hilary Clinton at number two.

Jennifer Instagrams Her Breakfast

Jennifer Aniston, breakfast

Jennifer Aniston posted the picture of her breakfast on the Living Proof account

Heartening news from Hollywood this week: Jennifer Aniston eats bread. Jen took over the @LivingProofInc Instagram account and used the opportunity to post a pic of her breakfast. Turns out everybody’s favourite Friend enjoys her poached egg on top of a good old-fashioned slice of toast. Just one mind you, but STILL. The actress also shared a picture of her dog lounging on her exercise mat ahead of her barre workout. She’s basically just like us.

Ciara for Cavalli

Ciara, Roberto Cavalli

The singer has been named as the new face of Roberto Cavalli

The first Roberto Cavalli campaign since Peter Dundas took over as creative director had us all aflutter at EW this week. Shot by Francesco Carrozzini, it stars US singer Ciara looking incredible in an array of fringed gowns and extravagantly patterned jumpsuits. The best part is, the seeds for this collaboration may have been sewn right here in Dubai; Ciara has previously said she spent a “marvellous” night dancing with Roberto Cavalli in Dubai at the end of last year. Just a few months later here she is in the autumn/winter 2015 campaign. We’re going to keep our eyes peeled for major designers the next time we’re throwing shapes at Barasti.

Blake Lively Turns Dress Designer

Blake Lively

The actress co-designed the dress with Amour Vert for her own website, Preserve

Gossip Girl Blake Lively posted this picture of a dress she designed herself – and we reckon Blair Waldorf would approve. The muted colour scheme, full skirt and demure length say Upper East Side, but the daring tie detail at the front keeps things playful. She’s a FROW and red carpet regular as a Gucci ambassador, but this is the first time we’ve seen Blake dabble in fashion design herself. She had help from eco-friendly brand Amour Vert to create the dress for her own website Preserve.
