Messages to mark the monarch’s birthday came in their masses, led by her eldest son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
A series of images were shared on the Clarence House Instagram page of the Queen with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a heartwarming message to Her Majesty calling her a global inspiration.
“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!” they said. “An inspiration to so many across the UK, the Commonwealth and the world, it’s particularly special to be celebrating in this Platinum Jubilee year.”
70 years on the throne
This year marks 70 years since the monarch ascended to the throne in February 1952 after her father, King George VI, died.
She is the only British monarch ever to mark a Platinum Jubilee and is also the longest ever living monarch.
The Queen’s great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, is the second longest-reigning British monarch having reigned for 63 years, living until the age of 81.
