Let the binge watching begin!

Netflix’s Turkish TV series The Protector  dropped on December 14, making it the streaming service’s first original Turkish series. The Protector is a fantasy series – a genre not commonly explored in Turkey.

The show follows Hakan, played by Çagatay Ulusoy, a shopkeeper from Istanbul. The character discovers that the world is not as it seems, when he learns that he is a part of an ancient secret society responsible for protecting the city. Hakan, the protagonist, goes on a journey of self-discovery as he decides weather to embrace his destiny as the city’s protector, or ignore it.

We follow Hakan as he begins to understand the inner working of the ancient society, and train with his new team, ‘The Loyal Ones’, which includes Zeynep (Hazar Ergüçlü) and Kemal (Yurdaer Okur). In true Turkish fashion, the show will also star Ayça Aysin Turan as Hakan’s romantic interest, Leyla .

Series lead Çagatay Ulusoy is a well-known Turkish actor and heartthrob, who started his acting career in 2011, and has since went on to star in several successful shows including Medcezir, a Turkish remake of American series The OC 

After only three days since its release, The Protector is already rumoured to be renewed for a second season, according to local newspaper Hürriyet Daily News.
