In a far away land (Paris), lived a fashion designer and her fair creative mind. Many years she had worked on creating the ultimate statement bag and that she did with gusto… today sees the launch of the Olympia Le-Tan Disney capsule collection, which is every bit as magical as it sounds.
For her latest range of mesmerising statement bags, fashion designer Olympia Le-Tan has taken inspiration from Disney’s greatest animation classics including Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.
Throughout the years, Disney has been a constant source of inspiration to many may designers with whimsical fairy tales continuing to ignite a creative sparks into the world of fashion thanks to emblematic figures living in timeless stories. In this capsule collection, Disney’s iconic characters are centre stage more than ever.
Le-Tan’s collection ranges from practical shoulder bags to cute purses and the famous Le-Tan book clutch. Discussing her idea to create the iconic book clutch Le-Tan said: “I’ve always been obsessed with books. I grew up in a house where the walls were all books. My father has a very big collection of old books and I was always attracted by the nice graphic covers. I think that’s what inspired me.”
Talking about her Disney collection, the designer said: “Making these bags was such a lovely adventure, like a little girl’s dream come true. I had to rewatch all my favourite childhood films, I had forgotten how amazing they are.”
Olympia Le-Tan is a self-taught designer. After working for Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, she joined Gilles Dufour to work for Balmain. In 2009, she decided to launch her own brand where embroidery and literature – her two passions – met. Her bags and her minaudières are made in France with love. These limited editions have already seduced Tilda Swinton, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams or Clémence Poésy. In March 2012, she showed her first ready to wear collection.
