The Oscar-winning actress called Israeli policy “racist”
Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman spoke out about Israel’s nation state law, describing it as “a mistake” and “racist” this week. She was referring to the nation state law which came in to force in July this year. The new law legalises Jewish-only areas, which would be off-limits to Arabs.

The new legislation also demotes Arabic from an official language in Israel, to having special status, with Hebrew remaining as the only official language.
“This [law] is a mistake and I do not agree with it… I hope we can love our neighbours and work together with our neighbours for change”, she said.
The actress was born in Jerusalem, holds an Israeli passport and moved to the the United States as a child. She has previously used her fame to promote the Palestinian cause, refusing to accept the Genesis Prize due to the Israeli government’s “mistreatment of those suffering from today’s atrocities”.
