It’s a tale of three icons with Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn and the Burberry trench all starring in the latest spring/summer 2015 campaign for the British fashion label.
Conceived under the creative direction of the great Christopher Bailey (seriously, this man can do no wrong), the campaign, which purposefully honours all things British, was shot by legendary A-list photographer Mario Testino in London, and brings the joyous mood of Burberry’s spring/summer 2015 collection to life.
Placing the newest interpretations of the iconic Burberry trench coat at the heart of the vision, the campaign celebrates the collection’s bright book cover designs and hand-painted pieces. In the collection the famous trench is give a modern twist with vibrant hues which complement the avant-garde seasonal accessories.
The history of the trench coat, which began as the Burberry Tielocken, dates back to 1912 when it was patented by Thomas Burberry. The innovative design featured a belted closure without buttons and was made from gabardine, the patented fabric that accompanied explorers on the first expeditions to the poles. The coat was originally created to protect officers from wind and rain – it was named after the trenches where military personnel were stationed.
However, despite it’s modest creation, the Burberry trench coat was lauded for its protective qualities, comfort and durability, and over the years it evolved, as the design grew in popularity, and was worn by royalty, film stars and artists.
The stars of the spring/summer 2015 campaign include Naomi Campbell, who rejoins the Burberry cast for the first time since her campaign in 2001 alongside Kate Moss. The shoot marks Jourdan Dunn‘s fourth project with the fashion brand – she first starred in the spring/summer 2011 campaign, which also featured Cara Delevingne.
The boys are George Barnett a British musician (drummer in These New Puritans) and current face of the Burberry Brit Rhythm fragrance campaign, as well as George Le Page, also a British musician (drummer in Of Empires) – this marks his first campaign for Burberry, having recently opened and closed the Burberry Prorsum Menswear spring/summer 2015 show in June 2014.
