She’s the definition of a supermodel, and now she’s a CFDA Fashion Icon.
Naomi Campbell has been a fashion icon for decades, and now the Council of Fashion Designers of America is making it official.
The London-born model will receive the CFDA’s coveted Fashion Icon award this June. She’ll join the ranks of Rihanna, Beyoncé, David Bowie and Pharrell Williams, along with her good friends Kate Moss and Iman.
We’d call it somewhere beyond well-deserved. The woman is a true icon.
As you’d expect from Emirates Woman, we’re celebrating through her best Middle East style moments.
Pictured here with her beloved ‘Papa’ Azzedine Alaïa in 1991, Campbell wears a lattice dress from the late Tunisian designer’s fall-winter 1992 collection. Stunning.
Twenty years on, at Cannes in 2011, Campbell wore a ruffled fishtail gown by Alaïa. She looks incredible, and about 10 feet tall. Alaïa and Campbell were a creative force to be reckoned with.
How’s this for a throwback? Campbell and her dear friend Christy Turlington are both wearing Alaïa in this 1990 shot.
Honestly, picking Campbell’s best Alaïa pictures is an exercise in elimination. Iconic is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but it applies perfectly here.
Speaking of, here she is with HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan and designer Donatella Versace.
We would love to know what these three chatted about.
In fact, it’s not even the only time that Campbell and Queen Rania have spent time together.
“You inspire me,” Campbell captioned this shot. “Your wise and enlightened leadership is a wonderful example for all of us to follow.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Let’s round this off with a shot of Campbell in a feathered, sequinned Elie Saab mini. Gorgeous.
Here’s to more exceptional Campbell style moments throughout 2018 and beyond.
