A beauty pageant we can actually get behind
If you are wondering what Miss Eco International is, then look no further. It is an international beauty pageant, which gathers representatives from all over the world, bringing them together to compete for a crown, much like Miss Universe. However, to compete in Miss Eco International, contestants have to be from different cultures and traditions, and have a keen interest in creating a better, more eco-friendly planet.
The competition is held annually in Egypt, and the 2019 edition will take place between March 13th and 30th, welcoming contestants from over 65 countries. This pageant does have a category that is unique to them, which is the Eco-Dress category, where contestants must wear a dress that has been recycled and that represents their countries culture or traditions. The competition’s program includes trips to several different touristic sites across Egypt, to promote and prepare for the event.
The opening ceremony for Miss Eco International will be held on March 14 and contestants will be wearing eco-friendly outfits that represent tradition and culture of their countries. Yesterday, the organizers announced on Instagram that Egyptian superstar and actress Laila Elwi will be one of the head juries at the National Costume opening competition of Miss Eco International.

Another aspect that makes this beauty pageant stand out, is how much it focuses on “the wellness of the mind, body and spirit of all the candidates”. The eco-friendly competition was launched four years ago, and former winners include Cynthia Thomalia from the Philippines (2018), Amber Bernachi from Canada (2017), Natalia Carvajal from Costa Rica (2016), and Patricia from Slovenia (2015).
