It’s no secret Dubai is home to some of the best restaurants in the world and now the emirate is set to be recognised by the Michelin Guide.
After starting as a little red guidebook in 1926, the highly acclaimed Michelin Guide has made its mark in different parts of the world highlighting the very best culinary offerings, and now will be coming to the emirate in partnership with Dubai Tourism.
Now, nearly a century since its launch, this respected guide will launch in the Middle East for the first time in June 2022, making Dubai its 36th destination.
To mark this special announcement, a prestigious launch event took place on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Museum of the Future where Emirates Woman attended, as well as special VIP guests and notable members of Dubai’s culinary world.
With a selected team of in-house inspectors, each selected restaurant will be examined on the basis of its popular star ratings and by using its tried and tested methodology to judge on several crucial criteria. This includes quality of the ingredients, mastery of cooking, the harmony of flavours, the personality of chef through the cuisine and consistency over time across the entire menu.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides said, shared his delight at bringing the Michelin Guide to Dubai for the very first time.
“We are delighted to announce that Dubai will be joining the MICHELIN Guide family,” he said. “Our team of inspectors is already in the field, in order to prepare the first selection of restaurants, which will be revealed in June.”
Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, shared a similar sentiment about the Michelin Guide launching in the emirate, highlighting the excellence of the culinary scene in this region.
“With Dubai home to thousands of restaurants serving a variety of cuisines from fine dining to street food, and talented Chefs, the MICHELIN Guide Dubai will provide a fresh perspective and new insights into the diversity, creativity and multicultural nature of Dubai’s culinary offering,” he explained.
Michelin Guide is known for its recognised system of distinctions – one-star, two-star and three-star. One Michelin Star is awarded for “high-quality cooking that is worth a stop,” Two Michelin Stars for “excellent cooking that is worth a detour,” and three Michelin Stars for “exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey.”
Now, only time will tell to see how all of our favourite Dubai restaurants will perform in the eyes of the Michelin Guide.
