In honour of World Food Day, Michael Kors has announced a host of initiatives to support Watch Hunger Stop, the brand’s ongoing campaign to fight global hunger.
Academy award-winning actress Halle Berry, whom has been a partner in the Watch Hunger Stop campaign since its launch in 2013 has joined the legendary and philanthropic designer Michael Kors to launch a host of activities throughout the month of October to support and raise awareness of World Food Day which takes place on October 16. The activities include the launch of a limited-edition watch, the premiere of video shot by National Geographic featuring Halle Berry, a United Nations World Food Programme field-visit sweepstakes and an in- store T-shirt giveaway.
The centerpiece of the campaign is the 100 Series watch, which was first introduced last year. This year a special limited-edition model has been added to the collection. The new model features a rose gold-tone stainless steel case and bracelet with a detailed map of the world etched on the colourful grey-blue dial. Engraved on the back is Michael Kors’ signature as is the campaign name, WATCH HUNGER STOP, the words “LIMITED EDITION” and the message “1 WATCH = 100 MEALS.” For each 100 Series timepiece sold, 100 children in a hunger-stricken area receive a nutritious meal.
Watch Hunger Stop was established in 2013 and works to raise funds and awareness to achieve a world with zero hunger. The brand’s partner is the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and the funds raised go to their school meals programme.
Actress Halle Berry travelled to Nicaragua on behalf of Watch Hunger Stop and Michael Kors in July. There, she accompanied WFP on a field visit to see the school meals programme in action.
However, she isn’t the only celebrity to help raise awareness for the cause, supermodels Lily Aldridge, Candice Swanepoel and Chrissy Teigen have joined with Michael Kors Watch Hunger Stop campaign to support the cause by promoting the new Watch Hunger Stop T-shirt design. Customers are invited to stop by a participating Michael Kors store from October 16 through the end of the month for a free T-shirt.
The new watch (US$295) will be sold exclusively in Michael Kors stores worldwide and online at michaelkors.com starting in October 2014.
