In a recent announcement, the Costume Institute revealed the theme for its Spring 2024 exhibit and the Met Gala 2024: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

Over 250 items from the institute’s permanent collection, some rarely showcased before, will be presented in a fresh and innovative manner.

The exhibit will showcase contemporary pieces by designers like Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney,  alongside archival designs from fashion legends such as Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, and Christian Dior.

Andrew Bolton, the Curator in Charge, shared that approximately 50 delicate pieces, including an Elizabethan bodice and an 1877 silk ball gown by Charles Frederick Worth, will be on display.

Celebrities are expected to interpret this nuanced theme in a new and innovative way. Think drama, theatrics (a given at the Met Gala), but with the infusion of technology, to bring out the revived and reborn perspective in fashion.

Scheduled for May 6, 2024, the Met Gala, sponsored by TikTok and supported by Loewe, will complement the exhibit, promising a fusion of contemporary and classic fashion on a glamorous night.
