Launched by Alexandre Corrot in 1994 in Paris, Djula has grown a loyal clientele such as Rihanna, Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. Below he talks us through his vision and expansion of the brand, including the recent opening of a boutique in Doha.

What do you love about creating jewellery?

I love that jewellery can empower a woman by enhancing her natural beauty.

What is the core identity of the brand?

 

The Djula woman is strong, independent, feminine, and creative. She has an innate sense of style, and loves expressing her individuality through the jewellery she wears.

How does it feel to have celebrities like Rihanna support your designs?

It is truly an honour to dress iconic women such as Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé. Seeing my designs on the red carpet inspires me to create bigger, bolder pieces that can be worn by all women.

Where do you seek inspiration?

I am inspired by my travels, art, and of course, women.

What is your first jewellery memory?

Growing up, our household was heavily influenced by the jewellery and fashion world. I remember when I was 13 years old, I bought my mother a bracelet for her birthday. After that, I started following the collections of the best jewellery brands in the world. This is when I truly discovered the amazing world of jewellery and gemstones.

How has the jewellery industry evolved since you started and how do you see it develop?

The jewellery industry has become more accessible. Jewellery has become an extension of fashion. As opposed to the antiquated idea that jewellery should be stored and shown off only on special occasions, Djula is a collection that can be worn daily.

What’s your take on jewellery in the Middle East?

The Middle East is a unique, amazing market. Middle Eastern women love jewellery. They are fun, fearless, and are not afraid to express themselves through the jewellery that they wear. I am very proud to announce that we just opened our first Djula boutique in Doha.

When you’re not making jewellery, what are your favourite hobbies?

I love to travel and discover new cultures. I am inspired by everything that I see, and much of this inspiration can be seen in the jewellery that I create.

What is next for Djula?

Djula will continue to expand internationally, with our newest boutique opening in Cannes this May. I look forward to creating more unique designs for my beautiful, loyal clientele. I have never been more inspired.
