Is this the most diverse and inclusive list of members yet?

The organization behind the Oscars has been focusing on diversifying it’s roster of members to become more inclusive and global.

Not only do women take up almost half of the the 2019 list, but it also includes creatives from 59 countries. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 842 new names and among them are several members from the Middle East.

Egyptian screenwriter and director Amr Salama, producer Mohamed Hefzy who is also the current director of the Cairo International Film Festival, Yemeni filmmaker Khadija Al-Salami, Egyptian-American filmmaker Karim Amer and Egyptian actress and singer Yousra have all be included.

They join the likes of singer and actress Lady Gaga, ‘Spider-Man’ actor Tom Holland, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ filmmaker Jon Chu, ‘Humans’ actress Gemma Chan, ‘The Crown’s’ Claire Foy, and multi-award singer Adele.

After invitations are accepted, the academy will host a mixer in the fall with the Oscars scheduled for February 2020.
