Give it a chance.

Before you click off thinking this is just another article claiming that sitting quietly for a period of time will cure all your problems, consider the fact that meditation has been proven, countless times over, to reduce stress and minimise anxiety.

“Last week marked the one year anniversary of my relationship with meditation, something I found endlessly daunting at first (the thoughts, the distractions, the boredom of it), but soon became the quietude that rocked my world,” Meghan Markle wrote in a blog post back in 2015. “I can’t put my finger on the why or the how, but I will tell you this much, for me…I am just happier. And meditation has much to do with that.”

That sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? But if you’re new to this practice it might take some convincing. First thing to consider is that the M word is less daunting than it used to be. With countless apps, online platforms and Instagram guru’s, stepping into the world of mindfulness is easier than ever.

It also helps to remember that there are several types of meditation to suit a variety of personalities. Can’t stop your mind from thinking? Perhaps vedic meditation, where you focus on sounds and chants, is the one for you.

Many of us blame lack of time to meditate, but just ask yourself – what are you doing in those 15-20 minutes (the optimal time for most people, once or twice a day) that you could spend on centering your body and mind? Best time to practice is in the morning or after a workout, so start small and see how it goes.

Perhaps its not for you. Some celebrities and CEO might attribute their happiness to meditation, but thats a lot of pressure to put on yourself so if its not your thing, don’t worry.

A group can help you focus and prevent your mind from wandering, so below we have listed some of the best studios and classes in Dubai.
