Brought the house down

Mayyas became the first Lebanese act to win Arab’s Got Talent when they took home the title this year. Now, after cementing their place in the region, the all girl dance group are making a name for themselves on the international stage.

The Middle Eastern talents were part of a spin-off series, based on the British talent show. Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, features several former international winners, finalists and participants facing off with one another, with a winner declared the champion at the end.

The Lebanese group, Mayyas, were one of the 45 acts competing in the talent show. They faced off against acts hailing from all around the world, including: UK, India, Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Singapore and others. Each of the selected acts performed in a preliminary round, with the UK television audience deciding who goes through to the final episode, which is yet to be aired.

Even though Mayyas were eliminated in the Saturday episode, they still managed to blow the judging panel and audiences away. The act performed a routine inspired by the Arab world, which included synced movements, granting them a standing ovation from Simon Cowell and the others.

The television mogul referred to Mayyas’ performance as “genius.” Meanwhile, English comedian David Walliams said: “It was one of the most beautiful things I ever seen. This is one of those acts where it only works if every one of you is doing their piece perfectly and every one of you did.”

Moreover, fellow panelist,  Amanda Holden also praised the Lebanese act, saying: “The choreography was so intricate and every move you made was so precise and so disciplined. You are a fantastic representation of Arabs Got Talent.”
