Can’t wait to read this comic!
The legendary Marvel comic book universe is opening its doors to a new super-heroine, a Filipino called Wave. The new character, who was announced back in March at the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas, is set to make her comic debut on May 8.
There was little to no information about this new addition to the Marvel family prior to the comics release. However, we have now gotten a little sneak-peak before the highly anticipated graphic novel hits shelves. The preview was posted by Adventures in Poor Taste and shared by writer Greg Pak, and showed Wave sensing some disturbance in the water. We also see her coming head-to-head with Chinese hero Aero, who is based in Shanghai.
“These aren’t Chinese waters!” she says to Aero, who was turned out to be responding to a disturbance in the wind. As the two heroines go on to investigate the disturbances, an explosion ensues, and the rest of the story unfolds.

What we did know before the preview release was that Wave is a “mysterious Filipino superhero” who comes from the sea. The super-heroine is making her Marvel debut in War of the Realms: New Agent of Atlas #1, which is released today.
Back when the character was first announced, Greg Pak, gave fans a first glimpse of what the character would look like on his Twitter. “As announced at @sxsw, I’m thrilled to share the great @leinilyu‘s stunning design of WAVE, Marvel’s new Filipino superhero! Gorgeous colors by @sunnygho! She’ll appear for the first time in WAR OF THE REALMS: NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 in May, with art by Gang-Hyuk Lim!”

The design for Wave came courtesy of Filipino comic book artist Leinil Francis Yu, who worked alongside imagery colourist Sunny Gho. The heroine will be joined by two other new heroes from China: Sword Master and Aero, and all three of them will battle it out to save the world.
Wave is not the first Filipino character in the Marvel universe, but she is the first new release in more than 10 years. She came after the The Triumph Division, who were a group consisting of Philippines’ finest superheroes.
