Get ready to plan your getaways and long weekends. The UAE government has unveiled its official public holiday calendar for 2025, offering both public and private sector employees a chance to unwind and celebrate throughout the year.
The much-anticipated announcement, outlined in Cabinet resolution No. 27 of 2024, provides a clear picture of upcoming holidays, allowing residents to make informed decisions about travel and leisure activities.

Festivities Throughout the Year
The calendar kicks off with a one-day break on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, allowing everyone to usher in the New Year with a bang.
Following the Islamic calendar, the UAE will observe Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. This three-day holiday,falling on Shawwal 1-3, is dependent on the sighting of the crescent moon. If Ramadan lasts for 30 days, an additional day will be added to the festivities.
Later in the year, Muslims will commemorate Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha. A day off will be granted on Dhu Al Hijjah 9 for Arafat Day, followed by a three-day celebration for Eid Al Adha from Dhu Al Hijjah 10 to 12.

The spirit of tradition continues with a designated day off for the Islamic New Year, falling on Muharram 1. The exact Gregorian calendar date for this holiday will be confirmed closer to the time.
Residents can also look forward to a break on Rabi Al Awwal 12, marking the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).Similar to the Islamic New Year, the precise Gregorian calendar date will be announced later.
National Pride Takes Center Stage
The year culminates with a double dose of national pride in December. The UAE will observe Commemoration Day on Tuesday, December 2nd, followed by a grand celebration for the 54th UAE National Day on Wednesday, December 3rd.This two-day break provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the nation’s rich heritage and remarkable achievements.
Flexibility for Weekend Overlaps
The resolution acknowledges the potential overlap of holidays with weekends. To ensure everyone gets a chance to celebrate, it allows the Cabinet to move certain holidays (excluding Eid holidays) to the beginning or end of the week.
Local Government Leeway
The resolution also empowers local governments to declare additional public holidays for their departments and institutions on special occasions.
