Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s six-year marriage is unraveling at a rapid pace. During an interview last week with US show The Insider Nick Cannon revealed that the couple have been living separately for “a few months.”
“There is trouble in paradise,” Cannon admitted, but beyond their separate living circumstances he hasn’t revealed much more. This is most likely because Mariah has had her lawyer serve him with a ‘gag order’ according to TMZ. Nick’s not allowed to say anything about their relationship beyond what he already has, or he’ll face a hefty fine. Mariah on the other hand has the right to make any announcements on her own terms.
Most sources believe they have been living apart since May, and trace the trouble back to March of this year when Nick made an appearance on DJ Big Boy’s radio show and participated in the ‘Gimme 5 Game’. He was asked by the DJ to reveal the names of 5 famous women he’d slept with. His list included Mariah Carey, Christina Milian, Nicole Scherzinger, Selita Ebanks and Kim Kardashian. According to sources it was the revelation of Kim Kardashian that upset Mariah the most, who is apparently known to get quite jealous.
But Cannon then went on The Howard Stern Show and discussed further personal details of their relationship. It seems these Cannon’s loose-lipped public revelations are what is upsetting Mariah the most. She apparently feels publically ‘humiliated’, as well as abandoned because he was spending so much time away from home doing any gig that came his way, even though they don’t need the money.
Speculation suggests that divorce is inevitable, with sources saying that the couple has already started property settlements and custody negotiations. The pair have two three-year-old children who are fraternal twins named Moroccan and Monroe. It is believed Nick opted to leave the home as the environment was becoming unhealthy for the kids.
Mariah’s spokesperson has refused to elaborate on the split, saying: “I don’t comment on Mariah’s personal life. But Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour.” Mariah’s keeping mum too but posted a photo to Instagram on Friday of the twins hugging each other in their pjyamas with the caption “Friends forever!!!! #breakfastmoments.” Her 11-show tour is scheduled to start in October.
