Marco Pierre White

Simple yet contemporary dining is the order of the day at Marco Pierre White Grill at Conrad Dubai, with a four-course Valentine’s Day menu that will satisfy even the most ardent meat obsessive.

Décor

A cavernous restaurant with a real urban feel to it, Marco Pierre White Grill (MPW Grill) uses brick and stone in various guises along with cool low-hanging light bulbs and other ornate touches to create a very contemporary aesthetic. A long bar and piano lounge dominates the front of house while the an open kitchen – complete with dancing flames on a collection of serious-looking hobs – controls the business end of things.

Ambience

It’s a large restaurant and so might struggle on an ordinary week night when its main clientele would be after work diners and a smattering of couples in the booths that line the perimeter. However, we’re talking Valentine’s Day here, so it’ll be full to the rafters and with live music too.

Food

Yes, we know it’s a steak place, but it’s worth noting that MPW Grill takes its meat seriously, and has a great selection of cuts available. However this is all about the Valentine’s menu, a four-course meal that starts with a seafood platter to share – the scallops are seasoned to perfection, while the crab meat wrapped in salmon makes for a really filling way to start.

Next up is warm goat’s cheese with brulee fig and truffle honey. The combination of sweet fig and warm, crumbly cheese works astoundingly well, while a balsamic vinegar reduction adds a touch of acidity to the balance.

The main course of surf and turf follows with a bang – a big and imposing grilled wagyu striploin with two beautifully cooked garlic butter prawns resting on top. The aroma means your mouth is watering before you pop the first fork-full in your mouth and even without any sides, this is tasty enough to tackle alone. Finally, be sure to leave room for dessert – the raspberry soufflé and strawberry sorbet combination is one that you won’t want to miss.

Why bother

An interesting four-course menu that can be paired with drinks and a location that means the evening doesn’t need to end after dessert.

Go for

The warm goat’s cheese with truffle honey – one of the most enjoyable dishes we’ve had in quite a while.
