Mingle with the stars

Many of us dream to join Beyoncé on stage, or pose for a picture with selfie queen Kim Kardashian. Now, this is somewhat coming true, as iconic wax museum Madame Tussauds, is set to bring its life-like wax figures to Dubai soon.

For years, there has been rumours swirling around the opening of a Madame Tussauds branch in the Middle East. But, for a long time, they were just that, rumours. The wax museum is open in countless cities worldwide, including: Sydney, Amsterdam, London, Istanbul, Delhi, Tokyo and Hollywood to name a few. The project’s arrival in the UAE was first announced in 2008 and then confirmed eight years later in 2016, but the opening has been pushed back to 2019. In 2016 The National reported that waxwork museum will be owned and operated by Merlin.

Now, 11-years after it was first announced, we will be able to visit the iconic museum at Dubai’s Bluewater Island later this year. Madame Tussauds is home to wax figures ranging from singers, actors, comic-book superheroes, politicians, sports star and even historical figures. In Amsterdam, you will find a statue of Anne Frank, while in London, there are figures from the British Royal Family. So maybe we can expect to see a double of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai? or his son HH Sheikh Hamdan? Fingers crossed…

It will be fun to see the regions stars and influential figures immortalised in wax. Last year, Lebanese pop-star, Nancy Ajram got her own wax figure in Istanbul’s Madame Tussauds. The Badna Nwalee El Jaw singer’s statue is draped in a deep red gown, with a microphone in her hand, a perfect representation of the singer. However, not all wax figures turn out great, some don’t even end up looking like the person they are based off.

Earlier this week, Madame Tussauds London unveiled its statue of Ariana Grande, and the singer was not pleased. When pop culture news site, Pop Crave, shared a photo of the wax figure, the Thank U, Next hitmaker left a comment, writing: “I just wanna talk,” implying she isn’t impressed with the finished result. They got her iconic high-ponytail and the sweatshirt/hoodie combo that the 25-year-old can’t stop wearing, but still it didn’t quite hit the mark.
