Lupita Nyong’o is having a very good year. The exceptionally talented natural beauty has become the world’s darling practically overnight. From winning an Oscar for her emotional charged role in 12 Years A Slave to her sassy front row seat next to Anna Wintour at New York Fashion Week, she plays all her roles with incredible grace and style. It’s no wonder that Lancôme has chosen her as their latest brand ambassador.
Lupita joins an impressive list of iconic award-winning actresses who represent the highly successful cosmetic house, including Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz as well as a fellow rising star and Emirates Woman April cover star, Lily Collins.
A recent graduate of Yale School of Drama, Lupita has theatrical acting experience as well as having written, edited, directed and produced the 2009 documentary In My Genes, which looked at what it was like to have albinism in a predominately black African community. Most recently, UAE movie fans would have seen her star alongside veterans Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore in the action thriller Non-Stop.
Lupita always looks genuinely happy – her Oscar acceptance speech took the internet by storm because of her heartfelt and inspirational words. She has definitely become a worthy role model for many young women across the globe, so her new role is a natural fit.
When named as the latest ambassador, she said: “I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”
Reciprocally, it’s these qualities that caught Lancôme’s interest, as Françoise Lehmann the brand’s General Manager explains: “Both talented and committed, true to her African beauty, and showing a great curiosity and open-mindedness in her career choices, Lupita is by essence the Lancôme woman. A strikingly beautiful and intelligent woman, serenely but strongly living her life her own way, Lupita has this special kind of aura both enlightening and deep.”
We cannot wait to see the summer campaign images that will be shot by the world’s leading celebrity photography team Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
