Green is the colour of Spring/Summer 2021, well according to Nicolas Ghesquière who presented his latest Louis Vuitton’s collection in Paris.

Staged across several floors of the historic La Samaritaine department store that first opened its doors in 1870, the newest pieces were presented across two showcases with 200 guests at each and every single moment was live streamed to the world.

“The [phygital format] is a fantastic way of telling multiple stories at the same time,” the chief executive of Louis Vuitton Michael Burke told WWD ahead of the show. “The world wants to see the show at the same time. And when your audience is the world and not a curated crowd, you need a lot more storytelling.”

This was arguably one of the best collections from Ghesquière. He focused on genderless fashion by features baggy trousers styled with oversized jackets, loose tailoring and flowing trench coats. Outwear was particularly refined and there was a lot of emphasis on exaggerated shoulders paired with elongated trousers or mini dresses. It was youthful, rebellious and extremely wearable.

Clogs are making a fashionable comeback and Ghesquière created a heeled version for his show that added a fun element to the collection, but our eyes were firmly focused on the new handbags with a number presented in a vivid green colour mimicking the green screen around the runway that gave online viewers a unique digital experience.

He also unveiled new bucket bags, another key style for next season, alongside an updated version of the Cruiser model, a striking Blade clutch and the Chroma Key that features a heavy chain – another trend that’s not going anywhere.
