Stole the show
On Monday night in Los Angeles A-list stars turned out for the premiere of the live action remake Disney classic film Mulan.
While there were many who turned heads in their outfits, there was one person who stole the show, actress Liu Yifei, who plays the central character in the movie.
The 32-year-old opted to champion iconic Lebanese designer Elie Saab, wearing a stunning gold gown from the brand’s autumn/winter 2019 couture collection.
The stunning dress features a series of glistening embroideries as well as an intricate phoenix motif, and made the perfect statement for the leading lady of the film at the premiere.
For her makeup, Yifei kept it simple and natural letting her golden gown do the talking.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress discussed the phoenix motif on the dress and the inspiration behind the dress.
“Maybe you can feel some phoenix figure on it?” she said. “And it is inspired by Asian culture, this dress, and it’s also a little bit of the armour, like this part.”
The morning after the premiere Yifei’s stylist, Samantha McMillen, shared a closer look of the gown perched on a hotel room bed on her Instagram where every intricate detail could be seen.
Yifei’s leading role in the live action remake of the beloved 1998 Disney classic marks her first pivotal role in a western movie, and it wasn’t exactly an easy process to get the role.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, there were over 1000 actresses vying for the part, and it took one year to come a decision during the casting process.
Other stars at the premiere included the likes of Christina Aguilera and Yifei’s castmates, Tzi Ma and Donnie Yen.
However, there was no stealing the spotlight from Yifei and her stunning Elie Saab gown.
