Lady Gaga deserves an incredible round of applause (excuse the bad pun) for her latest career move – she has been named as the new face of fashion brand Versace.

While her red meat dresses, Kermit the Frog sweaters and erratic headpieces might have many people questioning her role as fashion ambassador, we can assure you her campaign images, shot in London by legendary style photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, will convince you that the brand made the right choice.

While Lady Gaga is the highest paid musician, according to Forbes, and boasts over 40 million Twitter  followers, Versace’s S/S14 campaign marks the first time that the popular Do What You Want singer has starred in any fashion advertising.

Striped of her usual garish make-up, stand out accessories and inappropriate styling, Lady Gaga appears as her divine and glamorous, more demure, self, reclining on luxurious furniture, her long hair Versace platinum blonde. In the elegant adverts she models the new ready-to-wear collections, which display Versace’s signature show-stopping style.

“The campaign shows how Lady Gaga completely captures the Versace essence: creative, experimental, fearless,” says a Versace representative.

“As well as featuring the iconic Signature bag, refreshed in new colours and enhanced by a silver chain on its shoulder strap, Lady Gaga is also captured with the new Palazzo bag, introduced at the S/S14 show.”

Lady Gaga, who features a track on her new album, ARTPOP, titled Donatella took to Twitter to celebrate her news as the face of the brand, saying: “I’m so happy to be working w/ @Versace for the new Campaign! What do you wanna wear this Spring? #Donatella #famiglia.”

Meanwhile, her newfound friend and celebrity look-a-like, Donatella Versace said of the pairing: “I am honoured that my friend Lady Gaga is the face of our new Versace campaign. I wanted to capture her true beauty and spirit in images that are elegant and alluring. She is like family to me, the embodiment of the Versace DNA.”

Of course, this is not the first time Gaga has been seen in Versace – the artists formerly known as Stefani Germanotta can be seen wearing the brand’s gowns in her Edge Of Glory video.
