Muneera Hamed Alsharhan from Kuwait is an artist who focuses on creating contemporary and art jewellery that offer something a little different.

Alsharhan exploits her extensive knowledge of Kuwait’s jewellery history and of the current market seeking to create a new authentic Kuwaiti jewellery culture. One not trapped in the past, respectful history yet focused on the future of this countries now youthful cultural demographic.

This flow and merging of old and new is reflected in the production of the collection, Alsharhan exploring traditional techniques alongside emerging jewellery technologies.

“The things we choose to put on our body say a lot about who we are. My pieces command attention alone, and when worn, shift the authority to who ever is wearing them,” she explains.

Her pieces are exquisitely intricate and set with coloured stones, a modern shift to diamond-driven collections long favoured by Arab jewellery lovers. Collections like “Daughters of the Moon” beautifully showcases the diversity and stunning qualities of the opal, while the “The Desert Blooms” line of fine jewellery is inspired by the native desert flora of Kuwait. She also works with dainty pieces, such as coin necklaces and “Mini Murtahash” necklaces that are ideal for layering together.

Muneera is Central Saint Martins graduate for Masters of Arts in Design: Jewellery and has aa Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design.
