Female athletes continue to change the game for equal representation in Saudi Arabia.

The country has reached yet another milestone this weekend, as a historical moment for women in sports took place for the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia’s first all-female football, the Greens Team witnessed a victorious moment as they won their first international game with Seychelles after they travelled to the Maldives for the match.

The score of 2-0 made the country proud as players Al-Bandari Mubarak and Mariam al-Tamimi scored to make this win a reality.

The next match will take place with the Maldives on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the National Stadium in Malé.

The team also received an official congratulations from the renowned footballer Péle on his personal Twitter account.

He said, “I want to congratulate the @saudiiFF and their Women’s National Football Team for their first official @FIFAcom match.”

“Today is a historic day not only for you but for everyone who loves football,” he added.

Keeping in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the environment over time has become conducive for overall health and participation in international events. The country launched its first-ever official women’s soccer league in 2020 and has already seen remarkable success.

Shaima Saleh Al-Husseini, the managing director for the Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA), previously told Emirates Woman, “During Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed’s Presidency, the Federation has gone from strength to strength, and together with our leadership team we’re privileged to serve Saudi by invigorating health and wellness metrics in the country.

“Everything has improved by leaps and bounds for women in sport in Saudi.”

By hoping to see more Saudi women compete in sports and reach professional levels globally, the leaders are taking all the necessary steps to ensure, women receive adequate representation and are a change agent for future generations.

As this team continues to give women equal access and opportunities to play and grow their skills for their game, the Kingdom is proud to support the ongoing success of female empowerment in the world of sport.
