Knitwear might be the furthest category of clothing from your mind, but there is one style which might just pass, especially if you drop the AC nice and low.

A knitted vest enjoyed popularity in the 90s, but thanks to the likes of Prada and Dior, those cosy warmers are experiencing a resurgence.

At Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri went for a Parisian preppy vibe as she styled the grey vest with a sheer blouse, gingham mini skirt, knee-high net socks and ballet flat, while Miuccia Prada took it from school to office by adding a tie, split pleated skirt and a headband. Style stars were also quick to adopt this trend, especially the Ganni girls who styled their warmers with shirts and tailored trousers for a grownup yet laid back feel.

Layering is not essential but is has been championed extensively on the runways as well as the streets. However, you can get away with wearing a knitted vest on its own, just choose a lightweight version with an oversized silhouette so you don’t overheat and style with shorts or jeans and chunky sandals.

It might still feel like summer outside, but this new wardrobe essential is a great way to start transitioning your outfits into autumn.
