Legendary fashion designer Alber Elbaz passed away over the weekend at the age of 59.

While his cause of death is yet to be confirmed, the creative had been in hospital in Paris and died.

The designer’s death was confirmed by Richemont in a statement to WWD.

“I have lost not only a colleague but a beloved friend,” Richemont’s founder and chairman Johann Rupert said. “Alber had a richly deserved reputation as one of the industry’s brightest and most beloved figures.”

In the wake of his death, many celebrities and notable figures in the fashion world have made public tributes to the late designer, who was previously creative director of Yves Saint Laurent.

Kim Kardashian was one of the A-listers to share her condolences, saying her “heart broke” when she heard the news about Elbaz’s death, posting a series of pictures of herself with the late designer.

Reflecting upon her first time in Paris, Kardashian revealed she had been “surprised with a lunch with Alber and I almost fainted when I walked in”.

“He was the most warm and welcoming,” she said. “Alber dressed me for my first Vogue cover and gifted me with the cover dress to hold onto that memory forever.

“Then Alber and Lanvin dressed me to the first Met Ball I was invited to on my own. Our fittings were filled with laughs and hugs! What a sweet soul. I will cherish all of our memories forever.”

Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri, Stella McCartney, Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli and more also all made tributes.
