Many designers would’ve felt daunted to step into Karl Lagerfeld’s shoes but with experience at both Louis Vuitton and Dior, we have a feeling that Kim Jones will do well as the new womenswear designer at Fendi.

He is taking on the role of the artistic director of haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women, working alongside creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi who will continue to create accessories and menswear.

After years of designing for men, this will be Jones’s first foray into womenswear. “Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honour as a designer and to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege,” he said in a statement.

As he is set to continue his role at the creative helm of Dior Men, this new appointment means that is he now leading two major labels within the LVMH luxury group.

He is the first creative director appointed into the role after the death of Karl Lagerfeld who designed Fendi womenswear collections for over half a century.

It’s a strong legacy to follow, but Venturini Fendi seems confident in Jones, saying, “My warmest welcome to Kim, to whom I am bound by deep respect and friendship. I am looking forward to take the Fendi universe to the next level with him.”

Jones has been at the forefront of the edgy streetwear movement across the menswear sector, and we expect him to bring the same sense of cool to Fendi when he unveils his debut Fall 2021 collection in Milan next February.

“Kim Jones is a great talent and since joining, he has continuously proven his ability to adapt to the codes and heritage of the LVMH houses while revisiting them with great modernity and audacity,” commented chief executive of LVMH, Bernard Arnault. “At Fendi, I am convinced that his vision and passion will highly contribute to the success of the women’s collections.”
