Kicking off Milan Fashion Week, Fendi presented a collection full of wardrobe staples at the Spring/Summer 2023 show.
Without compromising on functionality, the pieces took notes from the Italian house’s archives. Whether floral prints or a harmonious palette of neutrals, the collection stuck to its traditional codes to combine them with elements reimagined for today. By mixing up various tones for each look, the varied hues rode the Y2K wave.
As an ode to Karl Lagerfeld, the fashion house’s artistic director Kim Jones took a page from how the late designer developed pieces both “visually and technically”.
From technical organza to elongated racerback silhouettes, utilitarian fashion becomes a key functional aspect of today’s modern-day designs, which were effortlessly showcased on the runway. Through the process of layering the presentation highlighted modern minimalism in a new light.
When it comes to accessories, the bags saw a hint of duality with the double F motif featured with a clean touch. With chains and bold shades, the Peekaboo and Fendi First bags embodied the same spirit highlighted throughout the collection.
“What is particularly interesting to me about Fendi is exploring the notion of functional utility alongside femininity because Fendi women are strong with full, busy lives,” Jones said.
