Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada has sadly passed away after contracting COVID-19.
The founder of the world-renowned Kenzo brand passed away on Sunday in Paris whilst in hospital – he was 81.
The designer first burst on to the fashion scene a half a century ago when he launched his first Kenzo collection in Paris.
He arrived in the French capital via boat first stopping in Marseille in 1965 – five years prior to launching his eponymous label. Takada initially had only planned to stay in Paris for a short amount of time, but it eventually became the place where he called home.

Kenzo’s parent company LVMH – which was acquired by the luxury giant in 1993 – paid tribute to the iconic designer on Instagram following his death.
“Kenzo Takada has, from the 1970s, infused into fashion a tone of poetic lightness and sweet freedom which inspired many designers after him,” LVMH’s CEO Bernard Arnault said. “In this fresh and spontaneous spirit, he durably renewed the world of perfume.
“The Maison he had established, Kenzo, still explores his vision. I’m very sad to learn about his passing and express my sincerest sympathy to his family and friends.”
