They are both household names and both major supermodels who have been told they resemble a young Brigitte Bardot, yet Kate Moss and Lara Stone have never worked together before… until now, thanks to Balenciaga. The two modelling giants (both height and reputation) are the stars of the new Balenciaga autumn/winter 2015 campaign and the results of the shoot have left everyone asking, why on earth did we never pair these beauties before?
Kate Moss, 41, and Lara Stone, 31, both put their recent tabloid dramas behind them – Moss’s EasyJet arrest and Stone’s divorce from British comedian David Walliams – and truly dazzled like the pros they are in floor-sweeping gowns from the new season collection.
The autumn/winter 2015 look was styled by Panos Yiapanis and shot by Steven Klein and adds some much needed drama in the fashion race to produce the best campaign.
Balenciaga’s creative director Alexander Wang has had some stiff competition this season largely from fellow American designer Marc Jacobs who has not only turned to a series of red hot celebs for his campaign, including singer Anthony Kiedis, but he has also revived careers with Cher and, most recently, Winona Ryder also fronting his ads – Ryder first starred for Marc Jacobs back in 2003. Meanwhile, Jeremy Scott turned to his bestie, and woman of the moment, Katy Perry to be his Moschino star.
However, by pairing two modelling greats for the first time, and paring them in a series of series of raunchy positions, Wang may have sealed the deal on best ad.
The designer said to WWD: “For me, the fall collection began with the real women of Balenciaga – women who are multifaceted and multidimensional: strong and sensual yet also austere and mysterious. I wanted the first image for the campaign to frame Kate and Lara in a mysterious conversation.”
