Since she married into the British royal family, Kate Middleton has worn a number of jewels leant to her by the Queen and has also adorned many of the late Princess Diana’s pieces.

In her most recent public appearance with Prince William, which saw the pair host a socially distanced meeting at Buckingham Palace for the first time since the pandemic hit, the Duchess of Cambridge was seen wearing a necklace which was gifted to the Princess of Wales by Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud when he was Crown Prince. He eventually succeeded to the throne of the Kingdom in 1982.

Known as the ‘Saudi Sapphire Suite’, the set was worn by Diana on her many royal tours and events she undertook in the 1980s. The first time she was seen wearing the Saudi Sapphire Suite the suite was at the National Film Institute Dinner at the Royal Festival Hall in December 1981.

The set was last worn by the late princess in 1987 when she was in Melbourne, Australia on a royal tour with Prince Charles.

After Diana’s passing, the jewellery set was inherited by brothers Prince William and Prince Harry and was eventually gifted to the Duchess of Cambridge in 2010 upon her engagement to William.

Kate has been known to wear the earrings from the set frequently over the years, but the necklace appears to be a new one and is thought to be a new piece taking one of the stones to create the pendant necklace.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the earrings and pendant necklace for meeting the President and First Lady of Ukraine last week.
