John Galliano is finally making his long awaited public return to the fashion world next month as he debuts his first Maison Martin Margiela collection in London.John Galliano, who was appointed creative director at the Paris fashion house Maison Martin Margiela in October, will showcase his first ‘Artisanal’ haute couture collection in London on January 12, 2015 “around tea time”.
It was initially believed that Galliano’s first collection would be debuted during the upcoming spring/summer 2015 Paris Couture Week, but sources have revealed the collection will only be presented there by appointment from January 25-30.
Galliano’s new line for the Belgian brand will show at the London Collections: Men, and only 100 guests will attend. According to Margiela, the decision to debut here and not in Paris was due to Galliano’s “formative years and his beginnings in the industry – and it is intrinsically related to the city’s traditional tailoring history and heritage.”
The recent news proves that things are finally looking up for Galliano who has been absent from the fashion world since 2011 after a racist and inebriated outburst. The incident lead to him being dismissed from his post as creative director of Christian Dior.
The 58-year-old designer made his first public appearance at the British Fashion Awards where he went on stage to present Anna Wintour with her Outstanding Achievement award.
“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” said Renzo Rosso, president of the Only The Brave (OTB) group, which owns Maison Martin Margiela. “John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time. A unique, exceptional couturier for a Maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.”
Hear, hear! We can’t wait to see John Galliano back and in action…
