For a dig into its archives, Hermès has launched a must-visit exhibition in Doha, Qatar.
With designs transcending through generations, the ‘Once Upon A Bag’ pop-up shares the brand’s iconic history and explores the birth of each exclusive bag.
Assisted by La Piscine museum of art’s creator, Bruno Gaudichon, the display is the perfect amalgamation of designs with part traditional and part modern aesthetics.
For an insight into the history of Hermès bags, customers can explore an area devoted to its expansive selection of A-list-approved accessories. From the women’s Kelly bag to the men’s Sac à dépéches, each story is unveiled since its inception.
Since the 1920s travel took a drastic shift and the house steered in the same direction. The bags designed to keep functionality at the forefront are also on display to highlight how the brand diversified since its first travel bag, Sac pour l’auto.
As an ode to the fine attention to detail, one specific room is dedicated to the brand’s infinite precision, including the bags’ cleverly engineered clasps. With an immaculate horological eye, Hermès presents the bespoke creations of Jean-Louis Dumas, its former chairman who produced quirky designs into leather marquetry.
By still honing its heritage, the new creations take inspiration from its archival roots. Rich with the brand’s history, the latest products have adapted to the fashion industry’s ever-evolving requirements.
To conclude visitors can experience the brand’s fairy-tale pieces including the Birkin Sellier Faubourg, Kelly plumes and more, making this a journey between the past and the present.
The exhibition is open to the public from May 28 to June 11, 2022, at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) from Saturday to Thursday 9am to 7pm and Friday 1:30pm to 7pm.
