People and celebrities alike around the world are throwing their support behind the #BlackLivesMatter movement, protesting against police brutality and racism after George Floyd was killed in the USA.
On #BlackoutTuesday – a day where the slogan was spread on social media to highlight racial injustice and social discrimination – Huda Kattan and the Huda Beauty team posted an extremely important message about their stance against racism.
“At Huda Beauty we stand against racism today and always,” the brand stated on Instagram. “In solidarity with the black community and the Black Lives Matter movement, we are pausing our regular content.”
As well as this, a sizeable donation of $500,000 (Dhs1.8 million) was made by Huda Beauty to the NAACP (the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).
Huda Beauty also encouraged everyone to “listen, learn and reflect”.
“We are joining in the fight against systemic racism, and we encourage those who aren’t familiar with the Black Lives Matter movement to educate themselves and take action,” they added
Huda Beauty also referenced a vital quote from American political activist Angela Davis: “In a racist society it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.”
Furthermore, the brand will now be using their social media channels “to celebrate black voices and to share educational resources and content, while continuing to contribute with meaningful ways to support and uplift the black community”.

“We stand for equality and while today we are making our voice heard in support of Black Lives Matter, we will continue to support all communities facing global injustices,” the post concluded. “It’s time for change!”
