Weekends in Dubai follow a reliable pattern in our house. The weather is good (read: summer is still good, just a different kind), the children need entertaining, and the answer is almost always water — a pool, a beach, somewhere with enough space to run and enough food to keep the peace. If that sounds familiar, allow me to make the case for the Dubai daycation that quietly does both jobs at once: entertains them, restores you. This particular Sunday took us to Jumeirah Beach Road – family day, officially, though I’ll admit I’d had one eye on a spa reservation all week.

Why Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach works for a family day out

Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach is exactly what it looks like: manicured gardens, a long private beach, the Gulf stretching out beyond it. Some places don’t need the sell.

For families, the setup genuinely works. The main pool runs shallow at one end and deeper towards the beach, giving younger children plenty of room without anyone feeling nervous about it. The whole area hums with just enough activity – table tennis, an oversized chess set on the lawn, pool toys – without tipping into the usual family-hotel chaos.

Then, the masterstroke: an unlimited children’s buffet lunch by the pool, all the favourites plus dessert, which they help themselves to. Three hours passed without a single snack request. Whoever designed this deserves some sort of award.

There’s also an adults-only pool around the corner. I noticed it. I made a note of it. And then I walked straight past it, because I had somewhere else to be.

Inside The Pearl Spa – worth the visit alone

The Pearl Spa sits within the resort and is worth crossing town for even if you’re not staying. It begins, as all good afternoons should, with a drink – a blend of passionfruit and aloe vera, cold and lightly floral – which lands very differently after a morning in the Dubai sun.

The facilities are what you’d hope for from a Four Seasons: steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, all beautifully done. But the ice fountain is what I keep telling people about – and no, not the drinking kind. For anyone with a complicated relationship with ice baths (enthusiastic in theory, absolutely not in practice), this is the version that finally works. A machine dispenses shaved ice into a bowl and you apply it yourself, working it over the skin in slow, circular motions – face, neck, shoulders. After the steam, the effect on circulation is immediate; skin looks visibly brighter within minutes.

Then there’s the Experience Shower, a sensory pod where you choose your own weather – think tropical rain or a Caribbean storm. I needed an escape, so tropical rain it was: green light, birdsong, the sound of heavy rain. I stayed longer than strictly necessary. It’s a small, slightly magical thing to find inside a hotel on Jumeirah Beach Road, and I’d recommend building time around it rather than rushing through on your way to a treatment.

The treatments: a bespoke massage and a HydraFacial

I felt restored before I’d even reached the treatment room. What followed was pure bliss: a bespoke massage, then a HydraFacial. The facial was booked out of necessity – the seasonal shift has my skin perpetually thirsty – and it delivered exactly what I needed. Hydrated, glowing, and the lymphatic massage element left my face looking more lifted than I had any right to expect. “Snatched,” confirmed the girls’ chat.

I came back to the pool just over two hours after I’d left. The children were exactly where I’d left them, finishing a third scoop of gelato, and asked no questions about my absence. That, honestly, is the whole case for this place as a family day out.

The Day Escape Pass: what to know before you go

The Day Escape Pass is priced at Dhs500 per adult and includes access to the pool and private beach, with the full amount redeemable on food and beverages throughout the day.

Daycation guests receive 20 per cent savings on spa treatments at The Pearl Spa — all the excuse you need to book more than one.

Book treatments back to back, and arrive at the spa at least an hour before your first appointment to make the most of the steam room, ice fountain and Experience Shower.

Timing: settle the children by the pool for late morning, take the spa window over lunch, and you’ll be back before anyone reaches a fourth gelato.
