Taking further action

To tackle the ongoing shortage of hand sanitiser, numerous luxury brands including LVMH, L’oreal and Estee Lauder have turned their factories into production houses of this liquid gel. Following in their footsteps, beauty mogul and reality TV star Kylie Jenner announced earlier this week that she will use her resources to help medical professionals on the front lines of COVID-19 epidemic.

She and her mother, Kris Jenner, have partnered with beauty company Coty Inc. – majority stakeholders of Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin – to create custom hand sanitiser which will be distributed to hospitals in Southern California, as well as the staff delivering the product. Each of the bottles will also feature a message which reads: “Dedicated to first responders working to support our communities.”

The news comes after Kylie pledged to donate $1 million towards buying protective gear for Los Angeles-based medical staff. The 22-year-old has also used her social platform to encourage followers to stay at home and practice social distancing.

“Nobody is immune to this. Millennials are not immune to this,” she said on her Instagram stories. “New evidence actually shows that a large percentage in the hospital right now are young adults.”

Her sister Kim Kardashian has also played her part in support of coronavirus efforts by donating $1 million to families affected by the global pandemic through her shapewear brand SKIMS.
