Flirtatious and feminine

This is a major step, as it will mark the first time that H&M works with a designer from Latin America. Johanna Ortiz is a Colombian designer known for her use of bold prints, bright colours and structured ruffles. The designer and the retailer are teaming up to work on a line of ready-to-wear and dresses, for a “flirtatious and feminine” collection.

Unlike the Swedish brand’s previous collaborators, Johanna is not as high-profile. However, the designer is quickly developing a loyal following, thanks to her signature feminine and flirty dresses with romantic and exotic print. The rising brand has been worn by big Hollywood names like Beyoncé, Mandy Moore and Kerry Washington.

H&M x Johanna Ortiz is not expected to drop anytime before March of 2020. However, an exclusive pre-drop of four dresses, which will be released in select stores and online at H&M’s website on December 3. The tease collection will consist of a tunic dress, a wrap dress, a mini dress and a tiered floor-length number. Not just that, but the designer has also tapped into her archive for the collection, using floral prints from her catalogue in new colour-ways like warm yellow, dusty pink, forest green, and coral-infused dark brown.

“The prints all come from my obsession with the flowers, the palm trees and the beautiful colors I am blessed to see out the window when I wake up at home in Cali, in my native Colombia,” says Ortiz. “The imprint of Latin America and its uniquely festive atmosphere is something that can be felt in each Johanna Ortiz design, so I’m thrilled that so many women in the world will have a little piece of Colombia in their wardrobes thanks to the Johanna Ortiz x H&M collaboration.”
