Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) Spring/Summer 2025 kicked off with a display of creativity and cultural heritage. From the timeless elegance of Rizman Ruzaini’s kebaya-inspired collection to the transformative journey of Amjad Khalil’s haute couture, the opening day showcased a diverse range of talent and inspiration.

Rizman Ruzaini: A Nostalgic Ode to Malaysian Heritage

Malaysian design duo Rizman Ruzaini set the tone for the week with their SS25 collection, “Mustika.” Inspired by the 1999 film “Perempuan Melayu Terakhir,” the collection was a beautiful tribute to Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage. The kebaya, a traditional garment, took centre stage, reimagined in modern silhouettes with intricate embroidery and beadwork. The collection was a testament to Rizman Ruzaini’s commitment to preserving and evolving Malaysia’s sartorial heritage on the global stage.

Amjad Khalil: A Journey from Darkness to Light

Libyan designer Amjad Khalil captivated the audience with his “Beyond Black” haute couture collection. Each piece represented a chapter of transformation, a journey from darkness to light. Khalil’s designs reflected his personal experiences, with each dress embodying a specific mood he had encountered. The collection was a powerful statement of individuality and resilience.

Erick Bendana: A Celebration of Nicaraguan Culture

Erick Bendana’s “505” collection was a vibrant celebration of Nicaraguan culture. The designer seamlessly blended traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics, creating a collection that was both authentic and stylish. From the intricate prints inspired by Nicaraguan dances to the stunning evening gowns, Bendana’s collection showcased the beauty and diversity of his homeland.

Angelo Estera: A Fusion of East and West

Renowned Filipino fashion designer Angelo Estera made a grand debut at DFW. His SS25 collection, inspired by his travels from the Oriental Far East to the Arabian Sahara, was a beautiful fusion of Eastern and Arabian influences. The collection was a feast for the eyes, showcasing Estera’s talent for creating intricate and elegant designs.

La Moda Italiana: A Showcase of Italian Excellence

In addition to the runway shows, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) debuted its inaugural “La Moda Italiana: Dubai Edition” exhibition. The exhibition showcased the excellence of 25 Italian fashion brands, highlighting the strong and growing cultural and economic ties between Italy and the UAE.

The opening day of Dubai Fashion Week SS25 set the stage for a week filled with creativity, innovation, and cultural celebration. As the week progresses, we can expect to see even more stunning collections from designers around the world.
