Afef Jnifen was one of Tunisia’s first supers, and there’s a new generation of models from the North African country dominating the catwalks in recent years.

Whether it’s appearing on magazine covers or walking for couture labels such as Chanel, models from the region are among the industry’s most in-demand.

Azza Slimene

This one-to-watch model made her international fashion week debut this year at Paris, walking for Yohji Yamamoto, Maison Rabih Kayrouz and Chanel. That’s quite the CV for Slimene, who was only signed to Next Models Paris last year. We predict you’ll see a lot more of the 21-year-old on runways in the next six months…

Sonia Ben Ammar

This 19-year-old already has some big campaigns under her belt (most notably Dolce & Gabbana and Miu Miu) and has scored magazine covers including that of French fashion monthly L’Officiel Paris. Ammar also has her eyes on the music industry, and has previously revealed her plans to one day release an album.

Kenza Fourati

Snapped up when she was just 15, the now-30-year-old Fourati has ticked off plenty of things on the modelling bucket list. She’s starred on front cover for Vogue Paris and Sports Illustrated (and was the the first Arab and Muslim woman to be featured on the cover of the latter), and has created her own fashion line.

Hanaa Ben Abdesslem

She made headlines as the first Muslim spokeswoman for Lancôme, and was also the first model from the region to feature in the Pirelli calendar. Aside from walking on international fashion week catwalks, the now-27-year-old has also starred as a judge on Arab Fashion Star.
