A first for Arab women

Last month, the Venice Film Festival announced that Tunisian-Egyptian actress, Hend Sabry will be joining the prestigious jury panel of the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film. Ever since the announcement, we have been waiting for the 39-year-old to represent on the red carpet, and we have to say, she didn’t disappoint.

Last night, the 76th Venice Film Festival kicked off and the film industry’s biggest names jetted to the Italian city for the event. As the first-ever Arab women to sit on the judging panel, we were eagerly waiting for Hend’s entrance. The El-Mamarr actress paid tribute to Italy wearing a black custom-made dress from Italian brand Etro. The strapless dress featured hand embroidered sequins in different shades of blue with black duchess ruffles, leaving her look sleek and stylish.

Before hitting the red-carpet, the actress shared a post on her Instagram expressing her excitement. She wrote: “I am proud to belong to the international cinema family being part of the panel of juries of the most prestigious festival in the world – VIFF – under the management of Albert Barbera and chaired by the Serbian director and head of the panel of juries.”

The annual Venice Film Festival is one of the three biggest cinematic events on the calendar, and is seen as an indicator on which features will win big during the awards season. Past films such as  La La Land, Roma and The Shape of Water have all debuted at the event highlighting the level of competition to enter such a prestigious festival.

We can’t wait to see what she wears next!
