So it turns out World Beard Day is a thing. Today is a day to celebrate hirsute men everywhere.

From a five o’clock shadow to full facial coverage, we’ve rounded up five of our favourite celeb beards to mark the occasion…

David Beckham

There are few trends Becks won’t try (Google ‘David Beckham sarong’), beards included. We were big fans of the star’s facial hair, but apparently his wife felt differently. David told chat show host James Corden that he shaved it off under strict orders from VB. Spoilsport.

Jamie Dornan

The much anticipated big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey was panned, so maybe the Irish actor let his beard grow out to distance himself from his clean-shaven character, Christian Grey. Whatever, it’s working for us.

Henry Cavill

This particular Man of Steel can leap tall buildings in a single bound, outrun a speeding bullet, bend steel with his bare hands and cultivate a most becoming beard when off-duty. Here’s Superman star Henry Cavill looking extra sharp on the red carpet thanks to the addition of a little facial hair.

Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum

Sheikh Hamdan

Check out that beautiful Paris sunset. Oh, and some fantastique facial hair from our very own Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum during a trip to France. The Crown Prince is following in the footsteps of his father, ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is famed for his own precisely trimmed beard.

Paul Newman

Gentlemen, take note. This is a beard. Of course, it helps that he’s Paul Newman. Long before the late, legendary actor’s face was on bottles of his own-brand salad dressing (the proceeds of which all go to charity, BTW), it was enhanced by this fine example of facial hair, seen in Venice circa 1963. A classic.
