Star-studded line-up
Riccardo Tisci took over Kensington Olympia in London for what many would say is his most personal show to date. Both new faces and established Burberry models walked the show including Kendall Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid, Mona Tougaard and Hijabi model Ugbad Abdi.
Over the past few seasons he’s been formulating a new identity for the British brand that’s respectful of it’s heritage, yet feels modern. Something every generation wants to wear. Fall 2020 collection was named “Memories” and inspired by Tisci’s reflections on his formative years as a young designer, and is imbued with references to the places he visited – from London to India. Hence we saw pieces that represented both the 90’s London – with oversized polo’s and grungy plaid storming down the runway – and Naughties Bhuna showcased through madras checks and drapery.
“The memory of this special and formative time in my life is what has influenced this collection – from the places I visited and the people that surrounded me to the music that inspired me. It is this side of my personal journey that I wanted to blend with the codes and language that I have started to define here at Burberry,” explained Tisci.
There were also several interpretation of the classic Burberry trench coats – our favourite own by Ugbad, car coats, duffle coats and equestrian-inspired quilted jackets, alongside long collarless coats, tailoring, jodhpurs and fluted skirts. The Britishness came through surprising combination such as mismatched check prints thrown together in one look, knits styled with shimmering skirts, and crisp white shirt dress styled over glittering trousers.
Tisci also introduced the Olympia bag collection, featuring a shoulder bag in three sizes and a crossbody bag. Fabrications include Monogram jacquard, star-appliquéd suede and smooth structured leather in rich saturated tones.
